“ARTchitecture”: Picturing the Built Environment

Intertwined disciplines, art and architecture employ creativity, rigorous design, and the creation of meaningful spaces. This exhibition will examine the incorporation of architecture in art. The iterations are nearly endless, and they reflect the myriad roles architecture plays. An ancient ruin in a pastoral landscape, for example, may evoke the classical past. Showcasing a contemporary building can align an artist with modernity and its associations. Architecture also indicates a sense of place and marks location.

Quaint, homely, grand, historical — the artist’s interpretations of architecture indicate his or her vision for what a picture can mean.

Gathering Happiness

Join us for Summer Gallery Night with Saint Kate Artist in Residence, Megan Woodard Johnson.

As Artist in Residence, Megan has gathered nearly a year of shared moments with hotel guests, staff, visiting musicians and artists, Milwaukee residents, and more. Each of these exchanges has informed the vibrant, layered, abstract paintings she has created while at Saint Kate. This work is a celebration of both the importance of the simple moments that create a life, as well as the true happiness the act of painting evokes for Johnson.

Step into her studio and be immersed in her playful, mixed-media, practice. Experience bold color, strong composition, and rich detail that evokes joy, sparks curiosity, and encourages close inspection.

Then grab a creatively inspired cocktail from the bar, have a conversation with Saint Kate’s Curator in Residence, Shane McAdams, and visit our galleries to view all new exhibitions.
