I find inspiration from vintage ephemera, a gorgeous handwritten letter, a typewritten bill of sale, a matchbook cover or a calendar page from 1964. My rural upbringing gave me an appreciation for hard working people and the objects that help them in their daily lives. My current series titled Found celebrates all of these things. My artwork is a collage method of building up layers of encaustic paint, incorporating found objects and embellishing the piece through incising and painting. I enjoy creating texture as well as celebrating the beauty of weathered or rusted items.
“I am very grateful to have this opportunity to showcase my canvases in the cutting-edge and dynamic artist community of historic Walker’s Point and at the beautiful Grove Gallery. Hopefully, my paintings can be a catalyst for lively dialogue and exchange of ideas as to where we are, where we’ve been and where we’re going.” Exhibition runs through November 6, 2020. Open by appointment only. Contact Brett Waterhouse at (414) 659-0262 or email@example.com. Artist’s website: barbaraschaefer.com
