Cultural Chromosomes: Rozalia Singh

Rozalia Singh is the first of our 2024-25 Artist in Residence cohort. Within her fall residency, Rozalia aims to inspire communities to begin the journey of researching their families and writing their own history. Rozalia’s art breathes life into her ancestors of color, telling the story of their migration to Milwaukee, and how these stories shaped the history and culture of our city. Rozalia strives to cultivate a residency space where community members see themselves, and their family’s journey, as something impactful.

The Amaranthine Room Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg

Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg have created a large-scale installation made from remnants and surplus materials from their studio production. Like amaranth, a flowering plant that self-sows through a prolific production of seed, the components of the installation are also “generative objects.” A bespoke drawing table and a screened meditation hut are designed to support the creative process and produce the conditions necessary for new ideas to emerge.

Plum Blossom Initiative and Var Gallery proudly present the Bridge Work 10 exhibition, featuring works by Chad Alexander, Lillith Forsythe, and Kaden Van De Loo. In existence since 2015 and initiated by Jason S. Yi and Leah Kolb (Plum Blossom Initiative), the Bridge Work Professional Development Program is a collaborative endeavor that provides recent art school graduates with opportunities to sustain artistic momentum and transition into a professional studio practice. These highly motivated emerging artists created all new works ranging from paintings to sculptural objects to installation.
