Jemma Sands is the vision of Jennifer Heim, a native Californian inspired by her natural surroundings of the California coast and her travels around the world. Every piece of jewelry tells a story, originating from Jennifer’s love of the water. Collective Expressions
Join us for a special group exhibition celebrating the creativity, connection, and lived experiences of community members participating in behavioral health groups at Integration Healing. This collection brings together both collaborative and individual artmaking, exploring how personal expression can become part of something larger. Featured works include a collaborative mural inspired by flowers, organic forms, and shapes; quilt pieces that speak to connection, belonging, and the beauty of many parts becoming one; and cyanotypes created by individual group members, capturing moments of nature, light, shadow, and transformation. These works celebrate creativity as a shared language for connection, reflection, and community.

Between Reflection and Revelation: David Dunlop’s Material Alchemy
At the heart of this exhibition lies Dunlop’s fascination with reflective surfaces. Inspired by 17th-century Dutch and Italian paintings executed on copper and pietra dura (often alabaster), he applies traditional translucent oil painting methods to both venerable materials (like copper and gold) and contemporary substrates including steel and aluminum. The result is a distinctive body of work where luminous color interacts dynamically with metal surfaces, creating paintings that shift and glow as viewers move through the space.
Treasured Postcards Workshop by John Michael Kohler Art Center
Friday 5-9 p.m. only. Inspired by artist Lenore Tawney’s postcard correspondence, participants will create one-of-a-kind collage postcards. Using papers, photographs, newspaper clippings, musical scores, and nature guides, they will construct miniature collages ready to mail anywhere in the world. The John Michael Kohler Arts Center holds hundreds of key components from Tawney’s last studio environment, some of which are on display at the Art Preserve.

Out There
A two-person exhibition of new work by Hector Acuna and Andy Paczos. The title borrows the advice a teacher gave Paczos at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago: look out the window, “there’s lots of good stuff out there.” He took it, and has painted Chicago from direct observation for three decades since. Acuna works the same way, returning to his Wisconsin sites across multiple plein air sessions and staging handmade props to paint in natural light. Both find their subjects by standing in front of them.

Of Stardust by Madeline Grace Martin
Madeline Grace Martin is an interdisciplinary artist who earned her MFA from UW-Milwaukee. Her work, primarily featuring people and their connection to the natural world and their ancestors, has been shown nationally. In 2023, she was chosen by The Wisconsin Academy of Arts, Sciences, and Letters for a solo exhibition in which she collaborated with her father posthumously, inspired by his work as a writer and planter of trees. She is currently an artist-in-residence at House of RAD.

The Historic Third Ward Association — in conjunction with MIAD — unveiled four new large-scale outdoor paintings in the Third Ward in fall 2024.

It is delightful to encounter both in our urban environment. I believe in the power of art to connect, build community and spread joy.”

Artist Statement: “I appreciate the unique details of the birds that find residence in Wisconsin at various times of the year. Seeing two or more species together is always a special event, because they bring beauty along with their distinctiveness. My mural brings together the Robin, Northern Cardinal, American Goldfinch, Evening Grosbeak and Baltimore Oriole to represent the diverse people who fly to and from Milwaukee. The hands represent the people of Milwaukee reaching toward and welcoming these visitors. That is the beauty of Milwaukee — a mix of people that come and go. However, it is the culture and community, bound by different colored swirls, that influence and inspire us to learn more about each other.”

Artist Statement: “I have always enjoyed seeing animals and incorporating them in the pieces I make. Since moving to Milwaukee I was surprised by how many bird species and waterfowl visit Wisconsin for the waterways and the lakes. We see seagulls and other birds almost every day in the city, and I wanted to showcase the beauty of these animals that I feel is often overlooked.”

Artist Statement: In April 1945, a lone duck nest was found under the Wisconsin Avenue Bridge, nine eggs nestled within. Despair, exhaustion and uncertainty fogged Milwaukee as WWII neared its end. However, this little nest, alongside the duck who built it — lovingly named Gertie — had shone a new light of hope into the city. The nest was carefully watched over by Boy Scouts and a Wisconsin Humane Society Officer, and eventually six of the nine eggs hatched, each duckling receiving their own name. Gertie and her family became a Milwaukee sensation, visited by over 2 million fans. In this painting, Gertie is recreating the iconic Rosie the Riveter pose to symbolize her significance in reigniting the hope and strength to the Milwaukee community during the final moments of WWII.”

A salon-style exhibition of abstract work exploring color, gesture, and the freedom to move between styles. This collection embraces multiplicity — of style, process, and voice. Moving between bold color fields, gestural mark-making, and layered abstraction, the work resists a single visual language. Hung salon-style, the exhibition reflects the way ideas evolve in real time: nonlinear, intuitive, and expansive. Each piece stands on its own while contributing to a larger conversation about experimentation, freedom, and the refusal to be defined by one approach.

REMAIN – Photographs from Milwaukee’s Cemeteries
Photographer Jessica Kaminski turns her lens toward Milwaukee-area cemeteries, photographing life among the dead, quietly dramatic scenes, and the occasional unexpected visitor. Photographed on medium-format black-and-white film with a vintage twin-lens camera, each image is hand-printed by Kaminski in the darkroom using traditional photographic methods. The finished prints are custom framed for this exhibition, bringing together analog photography, hand craftsmanship, and a contemplative look at some of Milwaukee’s most enduring landscapes. Artist talk at 7 p.m. Friday.

Stop by the beer garden for Buy 1, Get 1 Three Cheers Lager cans during Gallery Night MKE on Friday and Saturday, and admire the art that pays tribute to one of MKE’s favorite neighborhoods. The label is packed with landmarks, local details, and nods to the people and places that have made the Third Ward what it is today.

Charles Munch: Seeking a Way
For over 40 years, Charles Munch has lived amid 220 acres of forest and grasslands in Wisconsin’s Driftless region. Inspired by his surroundings, he transforms the landscape through vibrant color, bold forms, and simplified compositions that move between representation and abstraction. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Museum of Wisconsin Art.
Robert D. Cocke: Homecoming
Arizona painter Robert D. Cocke reimagines nature through layered, dreamlike paintings. Drawing on memory and perception, he combines familiar elements of the landscape in unexpected ways, creating mysterious worlds open to discovery and interpretation.
