Tony Busalacchi

Tony has been exhibiting his art for at least 20 years, has shown in several Milwaukee galleries, and is a regular for the Paint Box Gallery in Door County. In the last three years all the work he has done, plus work from his private collection, has been used to raise money for the House of Peace and St. Ben’s Community Meal. Tony’s work for this show will primarily consist of mobiles, stabiles, and assemblages. The show is being sponsored by Barbara Brown Lee, Leon Travanti, Carolyn White-Travanti, Roger Quindel, and Thallis Hoyt Drake.

Jim Auer, the late Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel art critic, said of Tony’s one-man show at Mount Mary College, “. . . a man of elegance and self-confidence, knows every nuance of boxed assemblages . . . .” and “[m]uch like the artist himself, the work is opinionated and idiosyncratic, with a decidedly didactic edge.” Auer closed his review with: “This is a lively show that contains a number of finely cut gems, aesthetically and philosophically.”

For this fundraiser, all proceeds will benefit the Capuchin Community Services and its two locations – Saint Ben’s Community Meal and the House of Peace – both of which serve people struggling with homelessness, poverty, and food insecurity.

To Commit to Memory: Lois Bielefeld

To Commit to Memory delves into the photographer Lois Bielefeld’s parent’s life, particularly their conservative Evangelical traditions and how this plays out within the home. The project asks what does it mean for a queer and atheist artist, to share work about deep devotion/faith? It examines domesticity, power relations, ritual, faith, aging, and memory through photographs, audio and video. Lois Bielefeld completed this project as part of her MFA thesis at California Institute of Arts.

Places That Move My Spirit

Exuberant color and painterly brushstrokes fill the canvases of Midwest landscape painter Rodger Bechtold. Based on direct observation, recollection, and invention, Bechtold’s paintings blend representation and abstraction with straightforward beauty.
