“Winter Blues”

This deep blue series is a reflection of the Midwest winter — the kind of cold and quiet that only those who’ve lived it truly understand. It’s the if you know, you know season of stillness, solitude, and resilience. But embedded in every brushstroke is a quiet promise: that even the darkest freeze gives way to light. The sun doesn’t just return — it shines brighter, warmer, and with more purpose than before. This collection is a visual meditation on getting through, and the beauty waiting on the other side.

Balance

Susan Hall’s oil paintings reverently explore nature. Her animal subjects — often deer, birds, rabbits and other woodland creatures — are rendered with the gravity and presence of portraiture. Sometimes a human figure joins the animal in quiet communion. A lace or crochet pattern runs throughout many of her pieces, veiling the subject to create a dreamlike atmosphere while also suggesting a delicate connection. Hall’s work is informed by meditations on coexistence, vulnerability and the powerful harmonies that sustain the natural world.

Lois Bielefeld and Marzena Ziejka

The U.S. interstate system spans 46,876 miles of highway. Tucked beside on and off-ramps are mini patches of wild land coexisting amid exhaust fumes. These “freeway islands” were intentionally designed for drainage. During cross-country trips in all seasons, artist Lois Bielefeld began to notice that the hidden habitats hold life and mysteries. “Its own pristine devices” photographically explores this terrain at night. Bielefeld is joined by Marzena Ziejka, a Chicago-based artist from Poland, whose interdisciplinary work in sculpture and assemblage uses natural materials to reorient our thinking about what counts as natural. The exhibition continues through February 28.
