Join first-time Gallery Night venue Central Standard Crafthouse & Kitchen as we host six artists who all have day jobs but create amazing art as their passion projects. Guests can view and buy a wide variety of paintings, jewelry, photography, and sculptures.
Along with powerful art and live jazz, come see how we’ve converted a formerly vacant building – one of the oldest in downtown Milwaukee – into our all-new Crafthouse & Kitchen. Attendees 21+ will receive a free first taste of a new product that’s not even in stores yet. There’ll also be artist Q&As, building tours and so much more.
The broad spectrum of works selected for Out of the Darkness, Into the Light! explores the capacity for art to stir our emotions – from fear and anxiety to happiness and serenity. This theme is inspired by the difficult times we have all experienced and the idea of light and hope for the end of the pandemic. Fluid and open to multiple interpretations, the theme also reflects a re-emergence of artworks from our storage rooms, where some have not seen the light of day for quite some time, soon to be reanimated in the eyes of our visitors.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Chicano/a and Latinx migrant farm workers and other community members organized to improve working and housing conditions, expand social services, challenge discrimination in hiring practices, advance bilingual programs, and gain greater access to higher education. Known as the Farm Workers Movement, it continues to be consequential to the Hispanic community and the nation at large today. The Grohmann Museum and Latino Arts Inc. are pleased to present this joint exhibit, featuring photographs, art, artifacts, and ephemera related to the movement. The exhibit features generous contributions by local leaders and organizations that were at the forefront of the movement.
