Self-Guided Public Art Tour

Enjoy the great outdoors during your gallery hop on Friday and Saturday by taking in the public art in the Historic Third Ward, East Town, Westown, Walker’s Point and more! From Sculpture MKE exhibits and Brighten the Passage murals to sculptures, street art, historic figures and more, you can take a walk, catch a ride on The Hop, or grab a Bublr bike or scooter to take in more than 140 public artworks in the 414.

Seeds from the Akashic Record: The Work of Muneer Bahauddeen

An exhibition of artworks by the notable creative father and daughter duo and Lindsay Heights residents, Ras ‘Ammar Nsoroma and Adjua Nsoroma. “Studying symbols and new science inspires me to create. This body of work represents several years of exploration into symbolism of the Adinkra designs by the Ghanaian people and the spirituality of the Nommos of the Dogon people of Mali. I am using collage/mixed media to assemble my images. The subject matter pays homage to my collective spirituality and other ancient African icons.”

The Big 4-0: New Views of the Collection

Ranging widely within time periods, geographies, and artists’ careers, the exhibition highlights major works in the Haggerty’s collection. Artworks by Mark Bradford, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Enrique Chagoya, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Jeffrey Gibson, Sam Gilliam, Philip Guston, Keith Haring, Wifredo Lam, Elizabeth Murray, Diego Rivera, Richard Serra, and more are featured. The exhibition draws particular attention to the ideas and impulses that have fueled artists through the recent century, including novel approaches to modern materials + processes, political satire, kinetic and op art, migration, photography’s relationship to truth, mail art, and the challenge of representing life after war.

Milwaukee’s Rich History of Pride

For the month of October, which is LGBT History Month, the Create Gallery will feature an exhibit in partnership with the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project, MATC’s Pride Alliance and Rainbow Alliance staff and student groups, and the Create academic pathway. The exhibit, entitled “Raising the Flag: Milwaukee’s Rich History of Pride”, will honor MATC’s raising of the pride flag during Pride Month in June of 2024 and celebrate decades of LGBTQ+ progress in the Milwaukee community.
