Quilting In Contemporary Art: Stitching Our Stories 

Today’s quilt and fiber artists coninue to lean into quilting’s resourceful roots. To be able to carry on conversations and connection with African American ancestors to form their own stories through stitching squares of materials and fabric. These textile artists are building on the narrative potential of quilts to establish a new era that centers on history, cultural heritage and identity in communities where they live.

Susan Simensky Bietila

Celebrate the creative practice of Susan Simensky Bietila, a long time friend and collaborator of Milwaukee Water Commons. Sue is a creative force against mining and pipelines that threaten our shared waters. She uses storytelling, zines, printmaking, banner painting, and puppetry. She stood shoulder to shoulder with the Native American Water Protectors in Wisconsin and Michigan and in other movements against injustice impacting our communities and the planet. Make a button and contribute to a collaborative artwork at Gallery Night and Day.

Black Women exploring the intersections of self, love, nature and legacy through signs, symbols and synchronicities. Explore art with the sounds of a live DJ. Join the Artist Talk conversation Friday Night at 7 p.m. with participating artists and the audience. Hosted by Fruition MKE, Milwaukee’s only cafe, coworking and creative space.

The Big 4-0, Vol. 2: New Views of the Collection

Following the success of the fall show, “The Big 4-0, Vol. 2: New Views of the Collection” reimagines the Haggerty Museum of Art’s six lower galleries for the spring semester, presenting an entirely new installation of outstanding works from the Museum’s own holdings. The exhibition expands on collection favorites such as Keith Haring and Salvador Dalí paintings, with rarely seen works on paper brought out for the special anniversary. The show of modern and contemporary art contains distinct themes within each gallery such as artistic composition through chance, the role of personal biography, artistic use of commercial printing, and artistic creation following wartime.

Milwaukee Area Technical College presents creative works and exhibitions in a variety of mediums from the Alumni of the Creative Arts, Design and Media Pathway. The Create Gallery is located in the M building on MATC’s downtown Milwaukee campus. The gallery is inside the 6th Street Café on the first floor in room M175.

Celebrate the extraordinary life and artistry of Gloria Mather, whose journey was shaped through her unique dedication to learning by imitation. Discover her stunning oil paintings, from her early works to her own mastery, each a testament to her commitment, creativity, and deep love for art. Join us in honoring Gloria’s legacy — a tribute to the power of self-discipline, inspiration, and the timeless connection between artist and canvas. This is a fundraising event and 70 percent of the proceeds from works sold will be donated to Growing South Milwaukee, LLC, a non-profit organization with many city-improving initiatives.

Enjoy the great outdoors during your gallery hop on Friday and Saturday by taking in the public art in the Historic Third Ward, East Town, Westown, Walker’s Point and more! From Sculpture MKE exhibits and Brighten the Passage murals to sculptures, street art, historic figures and more, you can take a walk, catch a ride on The Hop, or grab a Bublr bike or scooter to take in more than 140 public artworks in the 414.

Momentum 

MOMENTUM: Art of the Near West Side celebrates the remarkable concentration of artistic talent in Milwaukee’s Near West Side neighborhood. Curated by local art advocates Erik Eide of Worldview Art Center and Brad Anthony Bernard of Community Arts & Funk Festival Productions, this exhibition features works across various media and styles. The grand splendor of Uplifting Mansion provides an elegant backdrop for exhibited artworks in a historic destination. As you explore the exhibition, you’ll discover the rich diversity of artistic expression that makes our neighborhood special. During the event, Uplifting Mansion will also formally announce and launch our Artist in Residence program, supporting emerging and established local artists with exhibition space and a six-month stipend.
